In your real life...

{Workout}

6 miles outside - freezing and sinking in the snow. 10min/miles
15 minute weights

To make myself feel good, I have to tell you guys that it was -5 when I went out to run today, but the wind chill made it -11.

I went back to my Asics for today's run. My new Nikes feel good though - I'm breaking into them nicely.

I am keeping an eye out for pro compression socks sale because I NEED to get more.
I really like how they feel so far.

Also, I don't own any long running tights. All I have are the 3/4 capris tights thingys. The compression socks make up the rest of the length of my running tights. It's a win-win. They keep my calves super warm!

I knocked out 6 miles outside today! I'm happy with the steady increase in miles.
Still running in the snow. Still focused on not slipping and falling. Still damn cold.
The run today was easier than yesterdays, but it was much more windy..and I can't do windy running.

Let's have a get-to-know-each-other question.

In your real life, are you shy or outgoing? Introvert/Extrovert?

I was reminiscing with a friend of mine about first impressions upon meeting each other, that type of thing. I describe myself as a little shy. I'm comfortable in groups of about 4 or less. If I know you however, I'm not shy at all..and I'll talk my head off and tell you the most useless and nonsense stories (seriously, it's A LOT of nonsense).
In big groups and atmospheres, I can get pretty quiet.

I'm also someone that's a realist and very honest with themselves. You know that episode of Friends where they call Rachel uptight because she was embarrassed about the way Pheobe was running in Central Park?
I had to laugh because I relate to that and would call myself a little uptight! Errr, Working on it!

For 2013, I want to LET GO so much more. I want to step out of my comfort zone and try new things - like take some dance classes!
I want to let go in the sense of not caring SO much what others think..so what if I make a fool out of myself doing something silly?!

Maybe you'll find me chilling like this dude in the near future, when I let go just a little too much. ha!

  1. I cannot believe you ran outside in -5 degrees wearing socks and capris! You live in Toronto-go get some long pants, girl!

  2. Niceee 6 miles today! in the wind! see, you did it :) Thats awesome!
I can relate to what you said about your "shyness level" depending on how many people are around you. I am very similar to you. I have been accused of being 'too quiet' at certain friend's get together because I seriously dont talk much in huge groups. But so what?! my real friends know me well and they know that I can be pretty outgoing if I wanted to lol.

  3. I'm definitely shy! Even when I get together with my girlfriends, I usually let them do the talking. Well... Unless I'm drunk, then I'm a chatterbox!! With family I'm pretty chatty with, and co-workers.

  4. ahh how do you run in -5! I have trouble getting out of the house at 30! dang!

    1. Hey! Okay, I can't comment on any of your entries!! for some reason..when I do, it tells you to type in the 2 words for verification, but it only shows half the word and I can't make them out to get past it and post??! :S

  5. Awesome run girly. Brr! I hate having to worry about slipping! I'm not shy but I am totally ok with the silence so I think I make situations awkward with lack of small talk if that makes sense?

  6. I guess cold is all relative? Or is this like Vegas? It is a dry-cold? That is crazy though. Only you would make my 20 degree runs sound warm! Good job!

  7. Wow, I thought the 20 degrees I was running in was cold! Way to get after it, even in the cold and snow!!

  8. Look at you, YOU GO GIRL! I seriously cannot get myself to run outside in this weather (35 degrees)...Happy New Year btw <3

  10. 6 miles in the snow and wind?! you're awesome! on the real life stuff i'm like you... small groups are perfect for me, too big and i become the quiet observer. it takes me awhile to get to know and feel comfortable with new people except with runners! i made such great friends so quickly this year. we got to know eachother on the trails :) i love that you referenced Friends! love that show!

    1. I'm popping up with goals as I read other peoples blogs and thoughts - make some running friends. I must do that this year! I got 12 months to find one friend made strictly from running! You've inspired me!

  11. Hey, I was up at 5 this morning too - just to put in a short run before a weight training session with my trainer. High five girl!

  12. I think you need full length running pants in weather like that - freezing! I used to be shy but have become more outgoing with age - lol:)

  13. IRL I'm a combination of shy and outgoing - most of all, I think people would describe me as friendly and bubbly! :)

  14. I do not know how you handle running in the snow! I can barely stand up right in the snow. I have never tried compression socks either, will have to give them a go. I have always been really shy but then by early 20s I kinda switched. Now I'm somewhere in the middle.

  15. I'm a pretty shy person! It was a lot worse before I had my daughter! I would get so nervous i would blink 50 times a min, you would have to have super hero hearing to hear me talk back then! But now I have to get loud and sometimes stern for the little one! Plus she makes me do silly things like dance in the middle of a crowded store!!

    1. haha ONE day, I will dance in the middle of a store - that's my idea of letting go..good stuff :D!

  16. Last night was a blistery run. You need to get you some proper winter running gear! And Yaktrax. I don't have any but am looking into them. My gf runs in them and there is no slippage!

  17. I have always wanted to take dance classes. Ball room dance to be specific. But my husband would NEVER go for that

  18. way to go on your run!! and definitely invest in some long tights. you know which store i say to visit!! haha!
i am outgoing, used to be very shy as a child. my theme for the last half of 2012 was "let it go" (cue the dragonette song) and YES, go for it! it's hard for our personality types, but it feels good to not sweat the small stuff. good luck!

  19. Yay for running in the cold! I was going to use the long socks over capris trick last night but then my friend needed socks... so I just had bare legs. LOL! Do you have a balaclava/hood to wear when it is so cold out?

I have been working on trying to be less uptight for a long time. I am slowly getting better. I am really outgoing with people I know, but try to behave myself with new people. For a little while, anyway.

    1. LOL damn girl, bare legs?!?! The compression socks definitely keep things veeery warm!
Yeah, I wear ear warmers things when it's cold or windy, sometimes a full-on toque!

  20. I am a singing show fan but not the biggest fan of American Idol! I really like X-Factor! I like compression socks too they always make me feel good!

  21. it depends for me lol if i like you right away and get a good vibe from you i will talk A LOT to you, but if i don't then i won't, big groups, i don't talk at all, very quiet, i have an easier time with smaller groups.
i'm thinking i might watch the auditions for American Idol this year :)

  22. 6 miles is great!! and yess to american idol!! <3

  23. Holy moly that's cold, way to still rock a run outdoors, plus weights! Happy New Year!

  24. Got to love the windchill. I remember those days when it'd be -20 outside and like -30 with windchill. Hopefully we don't get a winter like that :P

I'm the same way as you in terms of extravertness/ intravertness. I'm really quiet in big groups but I can talk my head off when I'm with a few close friends. It also depends on my comfort level with those people I guess. Yeah... not a big fan of huge crowds and there's nothing wrong with that!

  25. I prefer running in cold weather than the heat but when it's icy out I hit the treadmill. Good for you for getting through 6 miles!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. What? Six miles in snow and below freezing weather? You are dedicated! I totally make up for 3/4 length leggings with knee socks too--but I do it indoors in the winter, haha. It's still too cold for me inside! And hmm, I'm definitely like you--I MUCH prefer small groups and get quiet around large ones, but I'd still consider myself fairly outgoing--especially around close friends!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm pretty quiet in big groups too, but I would consider myself mostly outgoing. Mostly shy if there are a ton of people I don't know. I do like meeting new people though. :)

Glad to hear your compression socks are keeping you warm on your chilly morning runs! I got the purple ones for Christmas!

  33. Omgosh firstly running when its -5 outside, hats off to you! i'd be a popsicle! Well done! :) I love your resolutions - i was told once not to take myself so seriously and it's true! Although its hard, just have to remind ourselves to let go! :) Good luck!

  34. Major props to you! I've never been in anything that cold, let alone run in it! I always have the opposite problem.

Love getting to know you :-) I can absolutely relate to the uptight thing. And singing shows are pretty awesome, though I haven't watched one for ages ;-)

  35. Love this blog! I took some dancing classes in 2012 even though I pretty much suck at dancing (unless I'm intoxicated...I think) and it was amazing and so much fun!

In reply to your comment, I know I can't believe someone took it! But never mind, I got an excuse to buy a new one I suppose haha.

  38. I am definitely an introvert! I like to be around other people- but I am very shy when you first meet me! Once I get comfortable however I can get really silly and outgoing.
I LOVE Friends by the way- and totally can get "uptight" when I think someone is acting inappropriately or is awkward in a social setting!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yay you for getting out there and running in the cold weather! Wow! 6 miles, too... that's awesome!

I function well with large groups of people, I meet new people and chat easily, I teach... but doing all of these things really drains my energy. I recharge when I'm alone. Maybe I'm an introvert with an extrovert's personality!? Who knows!?

  40. I haven't taken the plunge in purchasing running tights (they are too expensive) so I wear leggings with my compression socks pulled over them! lol
It keeps me pretty warm. But it's not that cold down here either.

    1. I have a crazy hard time finding tights! I don't find them too flattering so it takes a loooong while before I find a good one. I have an under armour one that was pretty cheap and fits well!
